HABITAT

HABITAT, a photographic exhibition about the spaces we build, seeks to challenge our approach towards building by exploring the connections between us, the natural, and the built environment.

The exhibition is inspired by Silvan Architects , a local female-owned architects practice that focuses its work on building less, consume mindfully, and create sustainable ecosystems suitable for human inhabitancy, driven by the ethos of ‘sufficiency’.

Silvan - or forest, wood in Latin - conceives the house as an ecosystem “a habitat that conserves and produces energy, manages waste, produces food, and a vibrant community of living things where stories happen”, by placing attention on our animal nature, it creates habitats that are reflective of our innate connection with the natural world and offers an alternative, human-centered environment.

This approach shines a light on today’s taken-for-granted landscape: increasingly becoming urbanized as a result of a ravenous, mindless construction industry that devours green spaces and is indifferent to precious ecosystems.

Habitat is an exhibition that strives to raise questions about the impact of urbanization on the animal world, in which we humans take part. Is the way we build silently harming us? Do we need a shift in construction culture? What is the impact of urban spaces on our perception of surrounding?

Curator’s Talk: An Evening of Reflection and Conversation

30th May | 6pm - 9pm

Join us for an evening of thoughtful discussion and lively reflection on the way we build — our structures, our systems, and our cities.

This informal gathering brings together the exhibition curator and invited industry voices for an open conversation around the ideas and questions raised by their work.

Expect insightful dialogue, fresh perspectives, and maybe even a little disruption of the way we think about the built environment.

Come curious, leave inspired — and enjoy a drink while you're at it.
