These two 90mns workshops can be booked separately or together.

During the sessions, participants will explore simple tools for creating movement using contemporary dance, working with space, time, and improvisation in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Through fun creative tasks and collaborative exercises, the workshops will introduce the basics of dance making and help participants build confidence in generating ideas, composing movement, and sharing work with others.
Inspired by the work of professional choreographers, the sessions will include:
Theme and variation
Floor plans and spatial design
Working with props and objects
Observing and recording movement through mark making and basic notation
The workshops are led by Vicky Hunter who is a Professor of Dance; she designed and led the MA Choreography programme at the University of Chichester from 2012-2023 and is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at Bath Spa University. Her work as a choreographer spans theatre, opera and contemporary dance and she specialises in site-specific dance making and research. She has published articles and books on dance and choreography including an edited edition of ‘Contemporary Choreography: A Critical Reader’ with Routledge publishers in Jan 2026.
Vicky will be supported by Louise Rushford, the Creative Director at RRS, who trained at the prestigious Laban Centre in London for a postgraduate degree in contemporary dance & choreography after studying for a BA Hons in Fine Art/Sculpture. Mixed Movement Workshop
House of Movement Education presents Mixed Movement Workshops at Roseberry Road Studios.
Taught by Guy Calville-Joynson, HOME Mixed Movement classes are built around six pillars of movement
- Physical Preparedness (think of strength work here, whether with weight or without)
- Mobility (think about working on joint ranges and fascial pliability)
- Dynamic Conditioning (think of pattern installation in the body and stringing combinations together)
- Internal Work (think about meditation, journaling and somatic practice)
- Movement Creativity (think of acrobatics, dance and movement games)
- Coordination (think of balance, partner work and problem solving)
As this class approach begins to take root and be installed through the human structure, those facets come together and are distilled to form a complete movement practice. This level of exploration and in depth working allows for a fully immersive and rounded approach to movement itself.
The classes focus on either one, or a couple, of the pillars, so each class provides a different focus. Whether you are new to a movement practice, just want to combat a more sedentary lifestyle or you just want to change the way you move. Each class is available to everyone at every level.

Life Drawing
Life Drawing
Explore drawing the human body in a relaxed and creative environment with tutor Louise Rushford (Exhibitions Manager at RRS) on Wednesday 1st April.
Friday 24th is a very special session with exhibiting artist Judith Brenner. “In this life drawing workshop, we focus on expressive mark-making to capture the energy and movement of the pose rather than precise detail. Through a series of rapid poses - and moments where the model dances - participants draw quickly and instinctively, responding to rhythm and motion. With no time to worry about accuracy, the aim is simply to catch the feeling of the moment on the page.”
Approx. 2 hours drawing time in our wonderful upstairs gallery, including quick standing poses and longer seated poses using a variety of drawing materials.

Yoga & Mandala Workshop
YOGA & MANDALA Workshop
Saturday October 4th | 2-5pm
£16 per person (including refreshments)
A meditative afternoon of yoga and mandala making with resident yoga teacher, Judi Bowers, and our Exhibition and Events Manager, Louise Rushford.
Mandala, meaning circle, is a pattern of power that represents the whole circle of existence, interconnection, harmony and unity.
The shapes naturally occur in the organic world; their perfect forms can be seen in atomic structures, crystals and flowers, as well as solar systems and wave forms.
Mandala work, starting at the centre out using a variety of shapes and colours, is often used to aid slowing down, focusing the mind, relaxation and self-expression… a connection between inner and outer worlds.
